LESSON PLAN
EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES II
| Subject | Digital Technologies |
| Class | SSS 1 |
| Term | Third Term |
| Week | 10 |
| Topic | Emerging Technologies II: Robotics, Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality |
| Duration | 80 Minutes (Double Period) |
| Date | ________________ |
1. Behavioural Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
- Explain robotics, Virtual Reality (VR), and Augmented Reality (AR).
- Identify practical applications of robotics, VR, and AR.
- Describe the effects of these technologies on society.
2. Previous Knowledge
Students have previously studied Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and applications of emerging technologies in everyday life.
3. Instructional Materials
- Computer system or laptop.
- Pictures or videos of industrial and educational robots.
- VR headset, where available.
- Smartphone or tablet capable of demonstrating AR, where available.
- Whiteboard and markers.
- Digital Technologies lesson note.
4. Teaching Methods
Explanation, discussion, demonstration, questioning, and guided classroom activity.
5. Lesson Presentation
| Time | Teacher's Activities | Students' Activities |
|---|---|---|
| 5 minutes | Reviews the previous lesson on emerging technologies and introduces robotics, VR, and AR using familiar examples. | Recall AI and IoT and identify familiar technologies mentioned by the teacher. |
| 15 minutes | Defines robotics and explains the main components of a robot, including sensors, controllers, motors, power supply, and software. Discusses practical applications and benefits. | Define robotics, identify robot components, and mention applications in agriculture, healthcare, manufacturing, and education. |
| 15 minutes | Explains VR and its equipment. Discusses applications in education, healthcare, gaming, architecture, tourism, and workplace training. | Explain VR, identify common equipment, and describe its practical applications. |
| 15 minutes | Defines AR and demonstrates or describes how digital content can be added to a real-world view using a compatible smartphone or tablet. | Explain AR and give examples from education, shopping, navigation, maintenance, and entertainment. |
| 15 minutes | Guides students to compare robotics, VR, and AR. Discusses their positive and negative effects on society, including productivity, education, employment, cost, privacy, and safety. | Compare the three technologies and discuss their benefits, challenges, and effects on society. |
| 10 minutes | Evaluates students orally, corrects misunderstandings, summarises the lesson, and gives an assignment. | Answer evaluation questions, summarise key points, and record the assignment. |
| Total: 75 minutes | The activities above total 75 minutes. Use the remaining 5 minutes for lesson closure and checking students' written notes. | |
Total Duration: 80 Minutes
6. Evaluation
- Define robotics and list four components of a robot.
- State four applications of robotics.
- Explain Virtual Reality and mention three applications.
- Define Augmented Reality and give three examples.
- State two positive and two negative effects of these technologies on society.
7. Assignment
- Write short notes on robotics, Virtual Reality, and Augmented Reality.
- Compare VR and AR using five points.
- Discuss three benefits and three challenges of emerging technologies in society.
