Difference Between AI and Robotics - JSS 2 plan
LESSON PLAN
DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES
| Subject: | Digital Technologies |
| Class: | JSS 2 |
| Term: | Third Term |
| Week: | 6 |
| Topic: | Difference Between AI and Robotics |
| Duration: | 80 Minutes (Double Period) |
| Date/Period: | ________________________ |
Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
- Distinguish between AI and robotics.
- Explain the interrelationship between AI and robotics.
- Identify examples of AI and robotics such as drones and chatbots.
Previous Knowledge
Students have learnt the meaning, types, parts and uses of robots and the meaning, types and daily-life applications of artificial intelligence.
Instructional Materials
- Pictures and videos of drones, chatbots and robots.
- Comparison charts of AI and robotics.
- Computer or laptop to demonstrate a chatbot, where available.
- Projector or display screen, where available.
- Whiteboard and markers.
Reference Materials
- Digital Technologies lesson note: Difference Between AI and Robotics.
- Videos and learning resources on drones and chatbots.
- Teacher-prepared examples and class activities.
Presentation
| Stage/Time | Teacher's Activities | Students' Activities |
|---|---|---|
| Stage 1 Introduction 5 minutes |
Shows pictures of a robotic arm, a drone and a chatbot conversation. Asks students which ones are robots and which ones are AI. | Observe the pictures and give their opinions. |
| Stage 2 Recall and Difference Between AI and Robotics 20 minutes |
Reviews the meaning of robotics and AI. Uses the comparison table to explain the differences in meaning, nature, physical body, purpose, parts and examples. | Recall the meanings, take notes and state the differences between AI and robotics. |
| Stage 3 Interrelationship Between AI and Robotics 15 minutes |
Explains how AI acts like a brain for a robot and how robotics gives AI a body. Discusses the possibilities: AI without robotics, robotics without AI and both together. | Explain how AI and robotics help each other and give examples of each possibility. |
| Stage 4 Examples: Drones and Chatbots 15 minutes |
Explains drones as flying robots that may use AI, and chatbots as AI programs with no physical body. Compares the two using videos, pictures or a short chatbot demonstration. | Describe drones and chatbots, state why a drone is a robot but a chatbot is not and compare them. |
| Stage 5 Class Activity 15 minutes |
Guides students to classify examples as AI, robotics or both. Moves around the class to assist and asks them to justify their answers. | Classify the examples, give reasons for their answers and share them with the class. |
| Stage 6 Evaluation and Conclusion 10 minutes |
Asks oral questions, corrects misconceptions and summarises the differences and relationship between AI and robotics. Gives the assignment. | Answer questions, clarify difficulties and copy the assignment. |
Evaluation
- Define AI and robotics.
- State three differences between AI and robotics.
- Why can AI exist without a physical body?
- Can a robot work without AI? Explain.
- How does AI help robots?
- Why is a drone a robot but a chatbot is not?
- Give one example of a machine that uses both AI and robotics.
Assignment
- Define AI and robotics and state three differences between them.
- Explain the relationship between AI and robotics.
- Describe a drone as an example of robotics and explain how AI can improve it.
- Describe a chatbot as an example of AI and explain why it is not a robot.
- Give three examples that use AI only, robotics only and both AI and robotics.
Teacher's Reflection/Remarks
Were students able to distinguish between AI and robotics, explain their interrelationship and identify examples such as drones and chatbots? Record any difficulties encountered and provide additional examples where necessary.
