LESSON PLAN: FIRST TERM REVISION

Subject Digital Technologies
Class SSS 3
Term First Term
Week 11
Topic Revision of First Term Topics
Duration 80 Minutes (Double Period)
Subtopics Advanced Programming I; Advanced Programming II; Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC); Networking II; Cloud Computing and Virtualization; Internet of Things (IoT) Applications; Data Protection and Backup Systems.

1. BEHAVIOURAL OBJECTIVES

By the end of the revision lesson, students should be able to:

  1. Explain functions, parameters, return values and arrays or lists in programming.
  2. Define object-oriented programming and identify classes and objects.
  3. State the major phases of the Software Development Life Cycle.
  4. Differentiate between the Waterfall and Agile development models.
  5. Explain IP addressing, IPv4, subnetting and common network protocols.
  6. Describe cloud computing, virtualization and virtual machines.
  7. Explain the meaning and applications of the Internet of Things.
  8. Differentiate between data protection, data backup, disaster recovery and redundancy.

2. INSTRUCTIONAL / TEACHING AIDS

  • Computer system or laptop.
  • Whiteboard and markers.
  • Charts showing SDLC phases and network components.
  • Programming examples and sample code.
  • Diagrams illustrating cloud computing, virtualization and IoT.
  • Previous lesson notes and revision questions.

3. PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE / ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

Students have studied the major topics in the first term, including advanced programming, software development, networking, cloud computing, IoT, and data protection and backup systems.

Teacher's entry question: Mention three topics you have studied this term and explain one thing you learned from each.

Expected response: Students mention relevant topics and recall important concepts from the lessons.

4. PRESENTATION STEPS

STEP TEACHER'S ACTIVITY STUDENTS' ACTIVITY
Step 1: Introduction
5 minutes
Introduces the revision lesson and explains its importance in preparing students for the first-term examination. Lists the topics for revision. Bring out lesson notes, identify the topics and mention areas they find difficult.
Step 2: Programming
15 minutes
Revises functions, parameters, return values, arrays or lists, classes, objects and basic object-oriented programming principles. Uses simple examples to explain the concepts. Define key terms, explain programming concepts and answer questions based on simple examples.
Step 3: Software Development
10 minutes
Reviews the meaning and phases of SDLC and compares the Waterfall and Agile models. List the phases of SDLC and state differences between Waterfall and Agile.
Step 4: Networking
10 minutes
Revises IP addresses, IPv4, subnetting and common network protocols and their functions. Explain networking terms and identify the functions of selected network protocols.
Step 5: Cloud Computing and IoT
15 minutes
Reviews cloud computing, virtualization, virtual machines and IoT applications in homes, cities, agriculture, healthcare and industry. Differentiate between cloud computing and virtualization and give examples of IoT applications.
Step 6: Data Protection
10 minutes
Revises data protection methods, backup types, the 3-2-1 backup rule, disaster recovery and redundancy. Explain backup methods and describe how data can be protected and recovered after a failure.
Step 7: Evaluation and Conclusion
15 minutes
Gives revision questions covering the topics, marks responses and clarifies difficult areas. Answer questions independently, correct mistakes and identify areas requiring further study.

5. EVALUATION QUESTIONS

  1. What is the difference between a function and a parameter in programming?
  2. Explain the meanings of a class and an object in object-oriented programming.
  3. List five major phases of the Software Development Life Cycle.
  4. State two differences between the Waterfall and Agile development models.
  5. What is an IPv4 address, and what is its purpose in a network?
  6. Differentiate between cloud computing and virtualization.
  7. State four applications of the Internet of Things.
  8. Explain the difference between incremental and differential backups.
  9. What is disaster recovery?
  10. Explain the 3-2-1 backup rule.

6. ASSIGNMENT

  1. Revise all first-term lesson notes and prepare a summary of each major topic.
  2. Write short notes on advanced programming, SDLC, networking, cloud computing, IoT and data protection.
  3. Answer all exercises and evaluation questions in your lesson notes.
  4. Prepare for the first-term examination by practising both theory questions and programming examples covered during the term.

7. TEACHER'S REFLECTION

  • Were the major first-term topics adequately revised?
  • Could students recall the important concepts and explain them correctly?
  • Which topics require additional explanation before the examination?
  • Did students participate actively in the revision exercises?
  • What strategies can help students improve their examination performance?
