BEHAVIOURAL OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

3. List the basic steps involved in booting a computer.
4. Demonstrate the correct procedure for shutting down a computer.
5. Explain why a computer should be shut down properly.
6. Identify safe practices for handling a computer before, during, and after use.

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE / ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

Students have previously learned about computer hardware and software. They can identify basic computer components such as the monitor, keyboard, mouse and system unit, and they understand that software enables a computer to perform tasks.

PRESENTATION

1. Introduction	Teacher asks students what they normally do before using a computer and what they do after finishing their work.	Students respond based on their experiences using computers.
2. Meaning of Booting	Teacher explains that booting is the process of starting a computer and loading the operating system into memory so that the computer becomes ready for use.	Students listen, ask questions and explain booting in their own words.
3. Steps in Booting	Teacher demonstrates how to switch on the power supply, UPS and computer, then explains what happens while the operating system loads.	Students observe the demonstration and identify the steps involved.
4. Shutdown Process	Teacher demonstrates how to save work, close applications and use the operating system's Shut Down command.	Students observe and practise the correct shutdown procedure under supervision.
5. Safe Handling	Teacher explains safe practices such as avoiding force, keeping liquids away from computers, protecting cables and avoiding sudden power interruption.	Students identify safe and unsafe computer-handling practices.
6. Practical Activity	Teacher supervises students as they practise starting and shutting down a computer correctly.	Students practise the procedures individually or in small groups.

TEACHER'S REFLECTION

Teacher should assess students' ability to correctly explain booting and shutdown and safely demonstrate the procedures. Students who have difficulty should be given additional supervised practical practice.
