Careers in Robotics and AI - JSS 2 Note

Careers in Robotics and AI - JSS 2 Digital Technologies

CAREERS IN ROBOTICS AND AI

Subject: Digital Technologies

Class: JSS 2

Term: Third Term

Week: 9

Topic: Careers in Robotics and AI

Duration: 80 Minutes (Double Period)

Learning Objectives

By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

  1. Identify career opportunities in robotics and AI.
  2. List the skills required for careers in robotics and AI.

1. Introduction

Robotics and artificial intelligence are growing fields. Robots and AI are used in factories, hospitals, schools, farms, businesses and many other places. As their use grows, more people are needed to design, build, program, operate and repair them. This creates many job opportunities for people who have the right skills.

2. Job Opportunities in Robotics and AI

Career What the Person Does
Robotics Engineer Designs, builds and tests robots and their parts.
AI Engineer / Machine Learning Engineer Builds and trains AI programs that can learn from data.
Data Scientist / Data Analyst Collects and studies data to find useful patterns that help AI systems and organisations make decisions.
Software Developer / Programmer Writes the programs that control robots and AI systems.
Robotics Technician Assembles, installs, maintains and repairs robots.
Automation Engineer Designs and manages automated systems, such as machines and production lines in factories.
Drone Technician / Operator Operates, maintains and repairs drones used for photography, farming, delivery and inspection.
Researcher / Teacher Studies new ideas in robotics and AI, or teaches others about them.

Where These Professionals Work

  • Factories and manufacturing companies.
  • Hospitals and health organisations.
  • Technology and software companies.
  • Banks and other businesses.
  • Farms and agricultural companies.
  • Schools, universities and research centres.
  • Government agencies, such as those that handle space, transport and security.

3. Skills Needed for Careers in Robotics and AI

Technical Skills

Skill Why It Is Important
Programming Robots and AI systems are controlled by programs.
Mathematics It is used in measurement, calculations, data analysis and building AI models.
Problem solving and logical thinking Careers in this field involve breaking big problems into steps and finding solutions.
Electronics and mechanics These help in understanding how sensors, motors and robot parts work.
Data handling AI needs data to learn, so people must be able to collect, organise and study it.
Computer skills Workers need to use computers and software tools well.

Personal Skills

Skill Why It Is Important
Creativity New ideas are needed to design better robots and AI tools.
Teamwork and communication Most projects are done by teams who must share ideas clearly.
Curiosity and continuous learning Technology changes quickly, so people must keep learning.
Patience and persistence Testing and correcting errors takes time.
Note: You do not need to be an expert in every skill. Different careers need different combinations of skills, and many of them can be learnt step by step.

4. Preparing for a Career in Robotics and AI

Students who are interested in these careers can begin to prepare now by:

  • Doing well in Mathematics, Basic Science and Digital Technologies or Computer Studies.
  • Practising programming with tools such as Scratch and later Python.
  • Building simple projects, such as programs, simulations or models of robots.
  • Joining school clubs and competitions in science, technology and robotics.
  • Reading and watching educational materials about robotics and AI.
  • Developing teamwork, creativity and problem-solving skills.

5. Class Activity: My Career Card

Objective: Students will identify career opportunities in robotics and AI and list the skills required.
  1. Choose one career in robotics and AI that interests you.
  2. Write down what a person in this career does.
  3. List at least four skills needed for the career.
  4. State two school subjects or activities that can help you prepare for it.
  5. Copy and complete the career card below, then share it with the class.
