1. Behavioural Objectives

By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

  1. Define Artificial Intelligence (AI).
  2. Identify common applications of Artificial Intelligence.
  3. Explain the applications of AI in education.
  4. Describe applications of AI in healthcare and business.
  5. Identify examples of AI in everyday life.
  6. State the benefits and limitations of AI.
  7. Explain responsible practices for using AI tools.

2. Previous Knowledge

Students have learnt about data science, Big Data and data analysis. They understand that computers can process information and that digital systems are used in different areas of life.

3. Instructional Materials

  • Computer or laptop, where available.
  • Whiteboard and markers.
  • Pictures or examples of AI-enabled applications.
  • Smartphone or voice-assistant demonstration, where available.
  • Projector or prepared charts showing AI applications.

4. Teaching Methods

Explanation, discussion, demonstration, questioning, brainstorming and group activities.

5. Presentation of the Lesson

Time Teacher's Activities Students' Activities
10 mins Introduction: The teacher asks students whether they have used translation apps, voice assistants, recommendation systems or chatbots. The teacher uses their responses to introduce Artificial Intelligence. Students mention familiar digital applications and describe what they help users do.
10 mins Meaning of AI: The teacher defines Artificial Intelligence and explains that AI systems can perform tasks such as recognizing patterns, interpreting language and making predictions. The teacher distinguishes AI from simple automation. Students define AI in their own words and give examples of tasks that AI systems can perform.
15 mins AI in Education and Healthcare: The teacher explains how AI can support learning, language practice, medical-image analysis and health research. The teacher highlights that AI results require appropriate human review. Students identify applications in education and healthcare and state one benefit of each.
15 mins AI in Business and Everyday Life: The teacher discusses chatbots, product recommendations, spam detection, translation, predictive text and route suggestions. The teacher also introduces examples from agriculture and transportation. Students classify examples according to the sectors where AI may be used and explain their purposes.
10 mins Benefits and Limitations: The teacher explains benefits such as speed, automation and pattern recognition, alongside limitations such as inaccurate results, bias, privacy risks and overdependence. Students identify benefits and limitations and discuss why AI-generated information should be checked.
10 mins Class Activity: The teacher asks groups to identify three AI applications, explain what each does, and state one benefit and one limitation. The teacher guides a short discussion on responsible AI use. Students work in groups, record their findings and present their examples to the class.
5 mins Evaluation: The teacher asks oral questions on the meaning, applications, benefits and limitations of AI. Students answer the questions and provide relevant examples.
5 mins Conclusion and Assignment: The teacher summarizes the lesson, emphasizes privacy and fact-checking, and gives the assignment. Students note the main points and copy the assignment.
Total Time: 80 Minutes

6. Evaluation

  1. Define Artificial Intelligence.
  2. Mention four examples of AI applications.
  3. Explain two uses of AI in education.
  4. Describe two applications of AI in healthcare or business.
  5. State three benefits of AI.
  6. Mention three limitations or challenges of AI.
  7. State four precautions for responsible AI use.

7. Assignment

  1. Define Artificial Intelligence and explain how it works in simple terms.
  2. Describe four applications of AI in everyday life.
  3. Explain how AI can support education, healthcare and business.
  4. List five benefits and five limitations of Artificial Intelligence.
  5. Write six rules students should follow when using AI tools for schoolwork.
