Artificial Intelligence (AI) JS 2 plan
LESSON PLAN
DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES
| Subject: | Digital Technologies |
| Class: | JSS 2 |
| Term: | Third Term |
| Week: | 4 |
| Topic: | Artificial Intelligence (AI) |
| Duration: | 80 Minutes (Double Period) |
| Date/Period: | ________________________ |
Learning Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
- Explain the meaning of artificial intelligence.
- Identify the basic types of AI.
- Give examples of AI applications in daily life.
Previous Knowledge
Students have learnt about robots, their parts and the role of software in robotics. They know that programs are sets of instructions that tell machines what to do, and they use phones, apps and websites in daily life.
Instructional Materials
- AI application videos and pictures.
- Charts showing types and applications of AI.
- Computer or laptop.
- Projector or display screen, where available.
- Whiteboard and markers.
Reference Materials
- Digital Technologies lesson note: Artificial Intelligence (AI).
- AI videos and learning resources.
- Teacher-prepared examples and class activities.
Presentation
| Stage/Time | Teacher's Activities | Students' Activities |
|---|---|---|
| Stage 1 Introduction 5 minutes |
Asks how a phone unlocks with a face or how a video app knows what to suggest. Shows a short video or pictures of AI in use. | Observe, suggest explanations and share examples they have seen. |
| Stage 2 Meaning of AI 10 minutes |
Defines artificial intelligence and explains that AI learns from data and examples. Uses the music-suggestion example and clarifies that AI does not think exactly like a human. | Take notes, define AI and explain in their own words how an AI system learns. |
| Stage 3 Types of AI 15 minutes |
Explains Narrow AI, General AI and Super AI using a chart, with examples. Stresses that all AI in use today is Narrow AI. | Identify each type of AI, state its meaning and give examples. |
| Stage 4 Applications of AI in Daily Life 20 minutes |
Explains the use of AI in voice assistants, recommendations, maps, spam filters, face and fingerprint recognition, translation and phone cameras using videos, pictures and a short demonstration where possible. | Identify AI applications, explain what the AI does in each and share examples from their own experience. |
| Stage 5 Class Activity 20 minutes |
Guides students in the "AI Hunt" and in classifying descriptions as Narrow, General or Super AI. Moves around the class to assist. | List devices and apps that use AI, state what the AI does and classify the types of AI from descriptions. |
| Stage 6 Evaluation and Conclusion 10 minutes |
Asks oral questions, corrects misconceptions and summarises the meaning, types and daily applications of AI. Gives the assignment. | Answer questions, clarify difficulties and copy the assignment. |
Evaluation
- What is artificial intelligence?
- How does an AI system learn?
- Name the three basic types of AI.
- What is Narrow AI? Give two examples.
- Which types of AI do not yet exist?
- State five applications of AI in daily life.
- Explain how AI is used in a voice assistant.
Assignment
- Define artificial intelligence.
- Describe the three basic types of AI.
- Explain why all the AI we use today is Narrow AI.
- Describe five applications of AI in daily life.
- Write a short paragraph on one AI application that you or your family use.
Teacher's Reflection/Remarks
Were students able to explain the meaning of AI, identify the basic types and give examples of AI in daily life? Record any difficulties encountered and provide additional examples where necessary.
