BEHAVIOURAL OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

1. Define sanitation and biosecurity in livestock production.
2. List and explain ways of disinfecting animal houses, tools, and equipment.
3. Explain how good hygiene and biosecurity protocols prevent disease outbreaks on a farm.

INSTRUCTIONAL / TEACHING AIDS

• Samples of disinfectants (Izal, Lysol, chlorine, lime powder, soap).
• Model or real footbath tray, knapsack sprayer, scrub brushes, and personal protective equipment (gloves, boots, aprons).
• Biosecurity rule charts and warning sign diagrams ("Visitors Keep Out", "Disinfect Feet Before Entry").

Step 3: Disinfection Procedures	Explains step-by-step cleaning of pens: litter removal, pressure washing, chemical spraying, and rest periods (downtime between batches).	Examine disinfectant samples and note safety rules when applying farm chemicals.
Step 4: Biosecurity Protocols	Outlines the three pillars of biosecurity: Isolation/Traffic Control, Cleaning & Disinfection, and Quarantine of new stock.	Discuss footbath maintenance and traffic restrictions for wild birds and unauthorized visitors.
