BEHAVIOURAL OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

1. Identify and list common poultry diseases such as Newcastle disease, Coccidiosis, and Fowl Pox.
2. State and describe the symptoms associated with these common poultry diseases.
3. Explain effective methods of preventing and controlling poultry diseases on the farm.

INSTRUCTIONAL / TEACHING AIDS

• Wall charts and pictures depicting sick birds showing symptoms of Newcastle disease, Coccidiosis, and Fowl Pox.
• Samples or empty containers of disease-control materials (disinfectants, biosecurity posters, mock vaccine vials).

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE / ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

Students learned about sanitation practices in Week 8 and understand that dirty environments cause infections in animals.

PRESENTATION STEPS

Step 1: Introduction	Reviews sanitation practices from Week 8 and asks students what happens when farm sanitation is neglected.	Respond by explaining that birds fall sick and die.
Step 2: Common Diseases	Introduces major poultry diseases (Newcastle, Coccidiosis, Fowl Pox) and classifies them by causal organisms (viral vs protozoan).	Listen attentively and note down disease names and their causes.
Step 3: Symptoms Identification	Displays charts/pictures showing symptoms like twisted necks, bloody diarrhea, and wart-like lesions on combs.	Examine charts, describe physical signs observed in the pictures, and record them in notebooks.
Step 4: Prevention & Control	Explains vaccination schedules, isolation of sick birds (quarantine), proper sanitation, and proper nutrition.	Participate by asking questions on how vaccines protect chickens from viral diseases.
Step 5: Evaluation & Summary	Summarizes key points and asks review questions to check understanding.	Answer questions orally and record assignment instructions.
